Since 2008, our longer courses have been accredited by the Association of Master Upholsterers and Soft Furnishers (AMUSF) and we have attracted students from far afield as well as the UK. Students seem to appreciate the range of courses, flexibility on dates and, of course our beautiful Cumbrian location. Yukari from Japan came in April to do the 7 week Level 2 Certificate. Having completed the course Yukari stayed on for a further 7 weeks supervision, undertaking commissioned upholstery work to consolidate her learning experience. Her projects included a Victorian armchair covered in a William Morris woven fabric. Patricia spent seven weeks with us in Spring 2008 She restored and reupholstered a traditional hunting chair, covering it in a pin stripe fabric. She also passed her Level 2 Certificate and now plans to establish her own business at home in Bermuda. CJ from London, came on a one week course in the Spring. She focused on combining traditional techniques with modern design and reupholstered an art deco arm chair which she covered in a modern geometric fabric for a classic contemporary look.
